Kris Foundation presented the second series of Viva Viola on 11th and 12th August 2017 at the Esplanade Recital Studio. This concert brought together a close group of upcoming musicians, shining light on the viola, in a vivacious performance of Beethoven, Frank Bridge, Handel, Brahms, Weber and Mendelssohn.
16-year-old Calvin Dai performed a demanding solo - Johannes Brahms’ Viola Sonata No. 2 - and we were lucky to have acclaimed cellist Leslie Tan of the T’ang Quartet join forces in the highlight of the programme, Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 2, modelled after Mozart’s String Quintets which featured two violas.
