Duo Senses: Harp and Piano was Kris Foundation’s first time presenting a solo harp recital. We had great pleasure in presenting Singapore’s pioneering young harpist Laura Peh, as well as established pianist Dr Azariah Tan.
Harpist Laura Peh introduced the sonorities and capabilities of the harp with a programme of European music, and premiered a specially commissioned solo work titled Cornish Tides by Singaporean composer Lim Kang Ning. Pianist Azariah Tan gave an enthralling programme of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations and L.V. Beethoven’s Op.109 Sonata.
Laura Peh is a laureate of international harp competitions in Wales, England, Thailand and Malaysia, and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at prominent venues across Asia and Europe including the Salle Gaveau, Salle Cortot, Buckingham Palace and Handel House Museum. She studied at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris in France and Royal College of Music, London.
Azariah Tan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan. He has performed across Asia, Europe and the US at venues such as the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, and appeared in concerto performances with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Polish Silesian Philharmonic , and others.
